Ohio PREP Program

Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, in partnership with Bowling Green State University, received funding Lucas County, Wood County, and ten other counties for the Ohio Personal Responsibility Education Program (Ohio PREP) for Foster Care and Adjudicated Youth. The Ohio PREP Project aims to reduce teen pregnancy and STD rates for Ohio’s youth (ages 14-19). Topics for Ohio PREP include healthy relationships, pregnancy risk, abstinence, delay tactics, getting and using protection, and so much more!

In Lucas County, 40% of 7th-12th graders have had sexual intercourse; this increases to 65% for those 17 years and older (Lucas County Health Assessment, 2013-2014). Although these numbers may seem high, it is important to note that the teen pregnancy rate for both Lucas County and Ohio is on the decline. Nevertheless, it is still important to continue educating our youth on pregnancy prevention, safe sex, and other sexual education topics.
