Toledo-Lucas County Health Department Medical Services

Below is a list of different services that the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department offers.  This is not the entire list of services offered.  If you would like to see the full list of services please visit www.lucascountyhealth.com

 Adult Medical Services

The adult medical services clinic provides resources and primary care to individuals 21 years of age and older.  Some of the health care provided includes: comprehensive physical examinations, education, intervention as well as follow-up.  The clinics main purpose is to prevent disease, decrease the risk of complications from chronic disease and assist with health maintenance, especially for those that cannot afford or access healthcare elsewhere.

Pediatric Clinic

At the pediatric clinic our staff provides well child care, acute care and follow-up for the treatment of common pediatric conditions for children birth to 21 years of age.  During the well child visits physicals consist of a through pediatric history and physical assessment.  During the physical screenings for lead, anemia, hearing, vision, and urinalysis are completed.  If needed social, dental, nutritional, and developmental assessments can be completed as well.

 Shots 4 Tots

Shots 4 Tots is a program that began in 1992 with a goal of increasing immunization rates among Lucas County children.  73% of Toledo children currently have immunizations up to date.  For those children that are lacking immunizations the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department can assist with getting your child on track.  The Shots 4 Tots immunization program is for children from birth through 18 years of age.   All clinics (13 locations) are walk-in, first-come, first-served basis.  For more information about fees and payments refer to our post from September 24, 2014. Dental

Complete dental care is provided for children birth to 18 years of age at the downtown clinic.  Children should been seen by a dentist before their first birthday and then again every six months after.  Some of the different services offered include:

  • Cleanings
  • Emergency services
  • Exams
  • Fillings
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Patient and parent education
  • Pulpotomies
  • Sealants
  • Simple extractions
  • X-rays

At the dental clinic all types of dental insurance, including Medicaid and all Medicaid HMO’s are accepted.  If you do not have insurance there are free or reduced fee options available for those who qualify.  No one is denied service because of his or her inability to pay.  Most of the care is provided by appointment.  If you are requesting an appointment please call (419) 213-4266 or (419) 213-4100

WIC

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.  WIC provides Nutrition Education, Breastfeeding Support and Supplemental Foods.  To qualify for WIC you have to meet specific criteria including:

  • Pregnant, breastfeeding or a woman who recently had a child (up to six months)
  • An infant or child under age 5
  • At medical or nutrition risk and meet income guidelines

Farmer’s Market Coupons are available for WIC participants at your local WIC office.  Attached is a list of fruits and vegetables that can be purchased along with the local farmers that accept the coupons.

 Breastfeeding Support

The Lucas County WIC Program offers Breastfeeding Support and Education to WIC Participants at its clinics and various locations throughout the county. Two International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and Peer Helpers assist mothers with knowledge and resources to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration.
