America’s PreparAthon!

America’s PrepareAthon! is an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to prepare for different disasters through drills, group discussions, and exercises. The different disasters covered are earthquakes, flood hurricane, tornado, wildfire, and winter storm. The goal of the campaign is to increase the number of individuals who:

  • Understand disasters within their community
  • Know what to do to be safe
  • Take action to increase preparedness
  • Participate in community planning

To participate in America’s PrepareAthon! all you have to do is go to www.ready.gov/prepare and register either yourself, your family, friends, or even an organization. After registering you have the opportunity to download different guides, activities, and customizable resources in order to customize your preparedness requirements.

During registration there will be questions that ask when you are going to hold your Day of Action event so that it may be added to the event calendar. This allows others in the area to know about your preparedness event. You are also asked which hazards you are preparing for and what type of activities you are planning to do in order to customize your learning materials.

On their website there is an opportunity to locate different preparedness events around your area during the month of September. http://www.community.fema.gov/connect.ti/events/view?objectId=218259&exp=e1
